Introduction: Kier work as part of a framework for Western Power Distribution to ensure its customers have power in their homes, businesses, schools and hospitals. We are an essential member of the team mainly working on reactive and planned maintenance.
We employ a large number of teams across the region, whose role it is to either respond to emergencies to dig down in the street or on private property to give our client access to repair their asset, or to lay new mains cables as part of their ongoing planned maintenance programme. Our responsibility begins with planning the works and finishes with us clearing site having put it back to the same or better condition than when we arrived, making sure that customers are happy and informed throughout every stage of the works.
The Role:
To survey, measure and plot from existing Ordnance Survey features new underground cables, ducting, earth wire and substations on the day of installation as part of the Western Power contract Dig and Lay contact. Surveys are to be issued to the client within 5 working days or sooner where possible.
Key responsibilities:
  • Manage the surveying and recording of cables and other WPD assets being laid to a tolerance of +/- 100mm and producing drafting scaled drawings following client requirements and standards.
  • Archive and maintain a good record of works.
  • To maintain confidentiality of information acquired in the course of undertaking duties for the company.
  • Liaise with WPD operational staff, Customers and general public.
  • Ensure all H&S compiled with.
Skills and experience required:
  • CSCS Card.
  • Effective Time management.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to understand numerical and statistical information
  • PC literate
  • Ability to read and understand data on Ordnance Survey / Utility Drawings
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products an advantage Word, Excel, Outlook etc
  • Basic CAD experience and advantage
  • Experience of use with GPS systems and advantage
  • Ability to create detailed scaled drawings.
