Introduction: Kier Strategic Highways are looking for an Assistant Drainage Engineer to join the Design Services team.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision of Design and Technical support services on the maintenance and renewal of Civil Engineering structures within the LNE Framework Portfolio.
  • Assist on site inspections and surveys as required for the completion of the above projects. It is understood that the survey team should include a more senior member with delegated responsibility.
  • Management of the day-to-day workload of CAD Technician staff within the Design Department, in line with instructions from the Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer or Design Manager. This does not imply any responsibility other than implementing the DE's, SDE's or DM's instructions.
  • To assist other members of the team by the execution of specific delegated tasks during times of absence.
  • To assist in the development of Design forms and templates for use within the Internal Design Department with a view to increasing overall efficiency.
  • Appreciation of the Department's financial, programme and resource constraints.
  • Preparing Design data for issue at the request of senior staff e.g. printing drawings, preparation of reports and supporting documents.
  • To liaise with May Gurney Construction staff (of equivalent status) in order to agree or record working details.
  • To promote safe working practices in all areas.
  • Other reasonable items / duties as requested by the Design Engineer, Senior Design Engineer or Design Manager.


Skills and Experience require:
  • Project Management Skills.
  • Communication and Initiative.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Ability to motivate and train CAD Technicians within the Department.
  • PTS (Minimum)
  • Full Drivers License
  • Appreciation of Network Rail Company and Line standards for the Design and Assessment of Railway Bridge Structures.
  • Understanding the importance of achieving customer satisfaction by maintaining the highest level of standards.
  • Awareness of SHE (Safety, Health& Environment) requirements.
  • Be fully competent and have extensive experience in the production of construction related drawings.
  • The ability to take instructions or sketches and produce unambiguous working drawings to a high standard of accuracy in an appropriate format, and to agreed timescales.
