Kier Strategic Highways have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Engineer to join our Area 9 Highways Maintenance contract.
Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities.
Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.
Your responsibilities:
· Analyse large amounts of pavement condition data including that within the Highways England Pavement Management System (HAPMS);
· Visit network to visually assess pavement condition to help understand priorities;
· Use ArcGIS to present information (training will be given);
· Work closely with our Operations Teams who are responsible for day to day maintenance of the network;
· Work with our Commercial Team to understand the likely costs of our proposed schemes;
· Assist in the continual maintenance of a 5-year pavement programme and liaise with other asset teams to identify opportunities for multi-asset schemes;
Planning and arranging traffic management and testing required;
· Attend meetings with the client to take notes and understand testing requirements/instructions;
· Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the team leader.
What are we looking for?:
· Knowledge of pavement materials and standards for maintaining pavements;
· An understanding pavement failure/defect characteristics;
· Understanding of traffic management arrangements to carry out works;
· A good understanding of Health and Safety related to working in a construction environment on a high-speed road network;
· Knowledge and experience of Highways England's Value Management process (desirable):
· Understanding and use of HAPMS (desirable);
· HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering, Geography etc.;
· Computer literacy in MS Office and use of ArcGIS (desirable),
