An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Environmental Sustainability Advisor to join our specialist business unit, Expanded. Part of the Laing O'Rourke Group, the Expanded Group provides total capability in the early construction phases of major projects, providing an end-to-end solution or a bespoke choice of services. Backed by a central technical design and engineering resource, we can deliver the full range of piling, precast concrete, post-tensioning and structures techniques.
Old Oak Common is a new super-hub set to be the best-connected and largest new railway station ever built in the UK. The station will have fourteen platforms, a mix of six high-speed and eight conventional service platforms, with an 850m-long station box.
The Role
To provide solution-oriented environmental support on a high-profile permanent works project for the HS2 programme. Assuring compliance with an ISO14001-certified environmental management system, ISO50001-certified energy management system and client requirements (including support of BREEAM NC 2014 and PAS2080).

Role and Responsibilities
- Supporting an environmental advisor with environmental support to the Expanded team at Old Oak Common.
- Collating, analysing, reporting and communicating Environmental Sustainability performance data and identifying trends in performance, primarily in excel
- Reporting into project-specific reporting tools and presenting information and trends to the client, identifying the client's priorities and aligning with them
- Ensuring that relevant Environmental information is displayed and communicated to all project staff, suppliers and subcontractors
- Ensuring project Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) logs are kept up to date
- Undertaking routine environmental inspections on site, to ensure compliance with best practice, environmental legislation, relevant consents and project-specific requirements
- Undertaking weekly water sampling (on site)
- Undertaking soil sampling as needed (on site)
- Promoting environmental initiatives (carbon footprint measurement and reduction, waste management, green procurement)
- Reporting environmental incidents and non-conformances and subsequent corrective actions
- Identifying opportunities to implement industry-leading environmental best practice
- Training the wider team on environmental sustainability topics as required
The Ideal Candidate
- Environmental Management degree (preferred not essential)
- Experience collecting and processing bulk information
- Comfortable with large data-sets - proficient use of excel (other data platforms such as Power BI ideal)
- Able to utilise information from standard reports to identify trends in performance
- Produces accurate standard reports in a timely manner
- Has an understanding of environmental management systems and carbon accounting
- Passion for the environment and sustainability
- Keen to learn and hard working
- Able to demonstrate initiative
- A team player who can demonstrate strong communication skills
