We have an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Operations Manager to be based at our office at Merehead near Shepton Mallet. About the role Assisting the Operations Manager you will support day-to-day H&S and operational running of Mendip Rail operations. Other elements to the role include: Support and deputise for the Operations Manager when required. Comply with the company’s Safety Rules, Health and Safety Policy, Environmental Policy and site-specific rules in order to ensure that all activities are conducted within the requirements of company standards; When deputising for the Operations Manager, ensure supervision of contractors for maintenance activities involving the shunt engines, track/siding and yard locations at Merehead and Whatley; Ensure the safe standard of contractors carrying out maintenance activities involving the track/siding and yard locations at Merehead and Whatley; Ensuring the most efficient solution is reached to maintaining the infrastructure and shunt engines; Ensure that Health and Safety requirements - with regard to operational and administrative areas are maintained to the company standards; Ensure contractors' competency and training is up to date prior to work commencing. Manage materials, consumables and stock items; Manage projects from concept to completion at the discretion of the Operations Manager. Chair the quarterly H&S meeting and take responsibility for H&S actions from the daily, weekly and monthly performance meetings with all stakeholders and supply chain partners Provide a point of contact for the quarry operational teams for rail specific H&S and operational matters Organise track maintenance dates with Quarries, Network Rail and Rail contractors. What will you bring? Strong communication and influencing skills Strong knowledge of IT packages (e.g Microsoft Office, Google) Detail and results orientated with strong personal values to succeed. Highly organised with demonstrable planning and delivery capabilities. Demonstrable experience of challenging the status quo. Supervisory or Management experience is essential What’s on offer?
