Introduction: Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.
Key Responsibilities:
Determine eligibility for transport and approve or challenge where appropriate requests for service for clients including, school children and vulnerable adults and children where appropriate in line with NCC's policy. This may be via email, phone, or letter or over the counter.
Assist, and where necessary, carry out planning of transport requests, which will include communicating with schools, service users, social workers, care managers, establishments, parents and policy makers. Ensure that the provision of transport is efficient whilst at the same time meets the individual needs of the service user.
Carry out all administrative tasks required for the successful delivery of transport planning.
Maintain all relevant databases and routing systems in order to ensure that accurate records are kept.
Liaise with parents/carers and schools on matters of pupil misbehaviour, and liaise with the compliance team were necessary.
Respond to all calls, which at times may be difficult and emotional from parents, in a professional and sympathetic manner. Build good relationships with our customers and give clear and accurate advice and where necessary be prepared to make difficult decisions, ensuring that consistency in decision making is maintained.
Assess client information received from all sources to determine if there are health and safety implications that will need a risk assessment and ensure that these are received and considered during planning.
The jobholder will also be required to cover any Transport Planner or other Planning Assistants where required.
Continually review current transport arrangements to ensure that the quality of the provision is still of a high standard and that the Council is receiving best value for money.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
IT literate and familiar with working with Microsoft Office and other common IT systems. Must be confident working with bespoke systems, and have numeracy and literacy skills. Excellent communication skills
Experience of Customer Service - face to face, over the telephone and in writing
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including plain English.
Ability to relate well with other colleagues, punctual and reliable, self-motivated , ability to prioritise workload and work to tight deadlines.
At peak times the post holder may be required to work additional hours which will be either paid or time off in lieu will be given.
Able to undertake their work activities in a safe manner in compliance with the KierWSP health and safety management system and not compromising the health and safety of their work colleagues, subcontractors, the client and members of the public.
