Building Services Engineer
Location: London
Kier Construction London is currently looking to recruit a Building Services Engineer to report to the Building Services Manager.
Responsibilities
- To implement and comply with Kier Group's SHE policy and procedures, all legal requirements, and best practice within the business unit and areas
- To support the achievement of the annual financial budget (operating profit) for the business unit
- To lead, manage and motivate the project's external consultants to establish their full commercial contribution to the organisation
- To support work to determine the required planning capacity, capability and competency of staff for the project(s)
- To develop an organisational culture within the business unit that embodies the values of Kier Group
- To support the winning of contracts while minimising risk and maximising gross profit. In particular:
- To determine building services requirements and solutions
- To support the evaluation and selection of subcontractors
- To embody Kier Group's values towards its customers and to promote the fulfilment of its vision to become the most highly respected company in the industry
- To establish and maintain the best relationship with the client, through and beyond construction, to satisfactory completion, and to deliver improved value to the client and company.
- To support the process of preparing (including post-tender activities), validating, adjudication and final submission of tenders on time and to the required quality
- To manage the process of developing the building services solution(s) in order to meet or exceed customers' requirements. In particular
- To develop solution requirements and design specifications for building services
- To support negotiations with the customer for the design solution retained at the end of the bidding process
- To support the commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors and subcontractors during the tender and fulfilment processes
- To support the handover of the project plan (PEP) to the fulfilment team (procurement, contract management, commercial management and project management)
- To assess, control and mitigate risks and implement Kier Group's risk policy. In particular
- To identify technical and operational risks within tenders and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit
- To support the project team(s) to fulfil contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while minimising costs. In particular
- To ensure the building services solution design is in line with the project budget and plan and the 'integrated design programme'
- To conduct reviews
- To support value engineering
- To support the appraisal and valuation of subcontractors' work
- To coordinate detailed design and implementation requirements with consultants, subcontractors and suppliers
- To support the development of, implement and comply with Kier Group's policies and procedures for functional governance.
- To spot short-term and medium-term market trends and innovations in building services
- To provide regular, accurate, consolidated reports and forecasts for the business unit and Kier Group on

Key Skills and Qualifications
- NVQ/HND/HNC/CIBSE or equivalent qualifications
- A Levels or equivalent
- GCSE/O-Levels or equivalent
- Computer literate
- Excellent communication skills
- Be able to work as part of a team
- Ability to organise, plan and manage workloads
- Be able to work on your own initiative
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
- Be able to motivate yourself and others
- Experience of working within a construction environment is essential
- Commercially aware
