Position: Business Development Manager

Reporting line: Regional Business Development Manager

The team and the region:
This is an exciting opportunity to join Kier Construction in the Scotland & North East region, based in our Newcastle office. Reporting to the Regional Business Development Manager, the Business Development Manager will form part of the Business Development team responsible for the entire Scotland & North East region, covering Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness and Newcastle.

Responsibilities overview:
  • Presenting to potential clients and consultants through direct communication, in face to face meetings, telephone calls and e-mails
  • Attend meetings and events with clients and potential clients
  • Generation of leads and appointments for preliminary interviews and briefing
  • Attention to detail to ensure all potential leads are captured and explored
  • Represent Kier at industry events and conferences
  • Manage a pipeline of opportunities ensuring that all deadlines are met and that information presented meets the company standards
  • Develop a thorough understanding of client's objectives, their organisation, their personnel and their capital works programme
  • Interact with other Kier departments especially the estimating and technical teams
  • Keep informed about issues affecting the industry sector
  • Use our CRM system to record all client contacts, project opportunities etc, and use the system to report on the pipeline of work, manage client contact and record wins
  • Set up meetings between client/consultant decision makers and regional leaders/principals
  • Gather further intelligence of schemes' background through research
  • Produce required win plans with Senior BD Manager and Pre-Construction team
  • Preparation and production of presentations, capability statements and material for client facing interviews and presentations
  • Support the events, conferences and exhibitions we attend - including pre-planning, briefings, logistics, presentations, posters, exhibitions stands and collaterals, conference roles and responsibilities; metrics and data tracking and post conference evaluation and actions-close outs
  • Raise the profile of the Kier brand through targeted marketing, PR and maximise use of existing social media channels

Experience requirements:

  • Recognised business development, sales, marketing or other business-related subject qualification and proven track record in similar discipline
  • Proven experience of business development activities, desirably within the construction industry
  • Exceptional relationship management and networking abilities coupled with a genuine passion for the industry
  • Strong communication skills in all forms
  • Excellent project and time management skills
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Able to communicate effectively with different audiences
  • Proactive worker who is able to develop and implement ideas with energy, drive and determination
  • Natural gravitas to engage with and influence senior executives both internally and externally
