Location: Southampton

Kier Southern is looking to employ a Buyer who will be responsible for the procurement of materials based at our Southampton office. The team currently consists of a Senior Buyer and an Assistant/Administrator.
Responsibilities:
  • Procure materials to specification and budget primarily for new construction projects from £0.5m-£45m.
  • Support Senior Buyer in procurement of materials in conjunction with Materials Assistant
  • Formulate, issue, receive and review tenders
  • Negotiate prices and terms and conditions of order
  • Provide support to Estimators at tender stage in obtaining materials quotations
  • Managing materials procurement for own sites including issue and maintenance of Procurement Schedules
  • Understand drawings, specifications and site requirements
  • Utilise Kier preferred suppliers wherever possible
  • Chair, scope and review meetings with supply chain and project operations/commercial team.
  • Identify items of financial / contractual implications and respond appropriately.
  • Knowledge of Oracle would be beneficial although full training will be provided
  • Provide technical advice and support.
  • Attend site meetings as required.
  • Support invoice query resolution
  • Administrative support as required.
  • Ensure regular communications and development of supplier relationships.
  • Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Good level of education, ideally working towards the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communicator - both oral and written.
  • Excellent IT skills - including use of procurement systems
  • Committed and pro-active with adherence to quality.
  • Previous experience of sub-contract procurement.
  • Previous people co-ordination experience.
  • Previous experience of working for a main contractor.
  • Professional membership within construction industry.
  • Proven experience of procurement practices and processes on construction projects.
  • Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills.
  • Able to work to demanding deadlines.
