Introduced as director of Canadian Operations for SME, Steve Prahalis will assume responsibility for growth, strategic direction, and financial performance of SME’s Canadian business and develop new Canadian opportunities for all SME business units. SME chief executive officer Jeffrey Krause cited Prahalis’s expertise and experience as “critically important” in going forward. Also, Prahalis, who joined SME in 2003, will assume leadership of SME Studios.

Issued by NAM, Q1 results of 2016 Manufacturers’ Outlook Survey show that, according to NAM’s Robyn Boerstling, show “deep concern from manufacturers when intellectual property and innovation are threatened.” Survey polled NAM members about manufacturing outlook as well as key intellectual property issues. Respondents were asked about measures in state legislatures aimed at requiring manufacturers to turn over sensitive operational information.

ASTM standard E2987/E2987M, Terminology for Sustainable Manufacturing, will help members of ASTM’s Subcommittee on Sustainable Manufacturing revise standards and develop new ones. While subcommittee E60.13 already published guide for evaluating environmental aspects of sustainability of manufacturing processes, several more proposed standards are in development on topics ranging from supply-chain sustainability to waste classification. These and other efforts will benefit from E2987.
