Resulting from collaboration between ASC and ASTM in 2011 following ASC Sustainability Forum, new version of ASTM C1193, Standard Guide for Use of Joint Sealants, features terminology and definitions supportive of Life Cycle Assessment, Environmental Product Declarations, and life cycle thinking. ASC’s Steve Duren noted efforts resulted in language that defines sustainability terms for sealants, including adding such considerations as service life prediction and environmental impacts.
