NIST Optomechanical Transducer links sound, light, radio waves.

March 30, 2016 | Comments Off on NIST Optomechanical Transducer links sound, light, radio waves.

Published in Nature Photonics, researchers at NIST developed “piezo-optomechanical circuit” that converts signals among optical, acoustic, and radio waves. According to one of said paper’s co-authors, Kartik Srinivasan, this device might enable detailed studies of interactions and foster development of phononic circuitry that can be modified with photons. “This work,” said Srinivasan, “presents one platform for transducing information between different carriers.”

Paper in OSA Research Jounal shows light slows in twists.

March 30, 2016 | Comments Off on Paper in OSA Research Jounal shows light slows in twists.

In Optical Society’s (OSA) research journal, Optica, researchers at University of Ottawa report that twisted light pulses in vacuum travel up to 0.1% slower than speed of light. Research team leader Ebrahim Karimi noted that this fact is of importance to anyone intent on using twisted light for quantum communication. According to Karimi and fellow paper author Frederic Bouchard, twisted light holds great potential for encoding in quantum communication and quantum computers.

Intelligent Locker System facilitates parcel delivery.

March 30, 2016 | Comments Off on Intelligent Locker System facilitates parcel delivery.

Used for parcel delivery/pickup in eCommerce, retail, and campus environments, PackRobot measures each parcel’s dimensions and uses 3D lift system that dynamically configures locker slot to optimally secure parcel; no space is wasted. Holding up to 500 variable-sized parcels in <5m² footprint, environmentally hardened design with internal climate control allows indoor/outdoor use. Every parcel is photographed and automatically weighed and measured to ensure appropriate routing.

Shaft and Hollow-Shaft Encoders simplify machine safety.

March 30, 2016 | Comments Off on Shaft and Hollow-Shaft Encoders simplify machine safety.

Certified for SIL2/PLd, Category 3 applications, Leine & Linde 850 Shaft and 862 Hollow-shaft Encoders allow incremental encoders to be applied where safe operation of machinery is necessary without requiring redundant encoder or secondary sensin…

Explosion Proof Cabinets protect field instrumentation.

March 30, 2016 | Comments Off on Explosion Proof Cabinets protect field instrumentation.

Constructed from GRP composite materials that are resistant to corrosion, pressurized Explosion Proof Cabinets are certified for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas and are suited for housing forward-placed analyzer equipment in industrial proce…

Electrolysis-Based Heat Source offers safe, reliable operation.

March 30, 2016 | Comments Off on Electrolysis-Based Heat Source offers safe, reliable operation.

By making hydrogen and oxygen via electrolysis of distilled water, Aquaflame 800 produces controllable and efficient heat source. Sole byproduct is water, and unit works without gas cylinder storage. Addition of deionized water, potassium h…
