“Cloud Computing and Accessibility Considerations” explores difficulties employees with disabilities may encounter as organizations migrate to the cloud. In addition to providing 8 known challenges with new IT technology, draft publication from NIST Cloud Accessibility Public Working Group lists barriers specific to cloud-computing environments. Working identified potential accessibility barriers and how to prevent them and also developed cloud computing accessibility taxonomy/vocabulary.

SPI’s Rigid Plastic Packaging Group (RPPG) announced that Mara Letica Saad of Letica Corporation was elected to 2-year term in RPPG Executive Committee. In addition to “driving new opportunities,” Saad said she looked forward to “addressing legislative issues for the plastic shipping container industry and the entire rigid plastic packaging supply chain.” SPI’s George Southworth believes Saad’s inclusion “will greatly strengthen the division” in terms of commitment and background diversity.

After having issued agreed upon time-limited registration to those involved, U.S. EPA is issuing notice of intent to cancel all Bayer CropScience, LP and Nichino America, Inc. flubendiamide products. After being informed of EPA’s finding on January 29, 2016, above companies were asked to submit request for voluntary cancellation. Both rejected EPA’s request, and EPA initiated cancellation of all currently registered flubendiamide products for failure to comply.

As announced by AIM, RFID Journal’s founder and editor, Mark Roberti, will serve as keynote speaker at AIM Summit 2016 on May 2nd in Orlando, FL. His presentation is entitled, “Will RFID Be a Niche Technology Forever?” Annual meeting will also include sessions devoted to innovation and technologies, educational opportunities, and networking that brings together automatic identification and data capture executives, educators, and worldwide end-users.

IEEE Photonics Society issued Call for Papers for 2016 Summer Topicals Meeting Series with “Emerging Technologies for Green Photonics” theme. Original research is being sought in 5 specific topic areas: Emerging Technology for Integrated Photonics (ETIP), Space-Division Multiplexing and Multimode Photonics (SDMP), Nanowire Optoelectronics (NANO), Photonic Hardware Accelerators and Brain Inspired Computing (PAHAC), and Optical Wireless Communication. Submission deadline is April 3, 2016.
