As announced by AIM, RFID Journal’s founder and editor, Mark Roberti, will serve as keynote speaker at AIM Summit 2016 on May 2nd in Orlando, FL. His presentation is entitled, “Will RFID Be a Niche Technology Forever?” Annual meeting will also include sessions devoted to innovation and technologies, educational opportunities, and networking that brings together automatic identification and data capture executives, educators, and worldwide end-users.

IEEE Photonics Society issued Call for Papers for 2016 Summer Topicals Meeting Series with “Emerging Technologies for Green Photonics” theme. Original research is being sought in 5 specific topic areas: Emerging Technology for Integrated Photonics (ETIP), Space-Division Multiplexing and Multimode Photonics (SDMP), Nanowire Optoelectronics (NANO), Photonic Hardware Accelerators and Brain Inspired Computing (PAHAC), and Optical Wireless Communication. Submission deadline is April 3, 2016.

IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop will be held Jan 31 through Feb 3, 2017. Papers selected and approved by ESW Technical Program Committee will be presented in 45-min slide show or poster format during workshop. Case Studies can focus on “what went right” or “lessons learned” and will be presented during workshop in 15-minute slide show presentation format. Tutorials are in-depth, multi-hour instructional sessions that may qualify for CEU credits. Proposals are due no later than April 1, 2016.

According to IPC’s monthly North American Printed Circuit Board Statistical Program, sales and orders slumped in January, but orders continued to outpace sales, bringing book-to-bill ratio up to 1.04. Total North American PCB shipments declined 1.6% in January 2016 compared to January 2015. Compared to December 2015, January 2015 shipments were down 19.2%. PCB bookings fell 3.4% below level of January 2015, and orders in January 2016 were down 14.3% from previous month.

HART 7 Locate Device feature displays visible code on device’s LCD screen. Supporting up to 32 characters, Long Tag feature allows detailed device name to be viewed or loaded into flowmeter. Burst mode capabilities of HART 7 also allows meter to burst up to 8 variables and to trigger messages based on process events.
