To promote awareness of and effectively address climate change and its impacts at local, community level, U.S. DoE will conduct Community Leaders Institutes in St. Helena Island, SC (May 14); Savannah, GA (June 11); Charleston, SC (July 16); and Myrtle Beach, SC (August 20). “Climate Change: A Global Reality,” made-for-television dialogue, will be used to introduce climate change issues, and local experts will thereafter discuss said dialogue and encourage discussion with audience members.

Global Alliance for Energy Productivity announced Rachel Kyte, CEO and Special Representative of UN Secretary General for Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All), as Steering Committee chair. Previously, Kyte served as Vice President and Special Envoy on Climate Change at World Bank Group. Alliance President Kateri Callahan expressed confidence “that Rachel will be an invaluable asset” and said she looks forward to working with Kyte on strengthening global energy productivity.

Congressional leaders have adopted an accelerated schedule to consider and approve funding levels for the federal government in the next fiscal year. Alliance to Save Energy and supporters in U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate have responded with strong statements and actions in support for robust funding for energy efficiency programs at U.S. DOE and U.S. EPA. Alliance is advocating for funding in line with President Obama’s budget and support for his “Mission Innovation” initiative.
