Civil CAD Technician / Assistant Civil Engineer - Birmingham
Location: Birmingham
Sector: Civil/Infrastructure Engineering
Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: £30k - £40k + Excellent Benefits
I'm currently working with a rapidly growing engineering consultancy that's looking to add a talented Infrastructure CAD Technician or Assistant Engineer to their Birmingham team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their civil engineering career, working within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
You'll be joining a collaborative Civil/Infrastructure Engineering team that's delivering sustainable, practical solutions across a range of civil engineering and lighting design projects. The team is working on a diverse portfolio of developments across the UK - so no two days will be the same!
What They're Looking For:
They're keen to speak with candidates who enjoy being hands-on with design and drawings, supporting engineers through the preparation of technical plans, and contributing to infrastructure solutions. This role would suit someone with strong CAD experience and a desire to grow professionally in a supportive, fast-paced consultancy environment.
What You'll Need:
- A BTEC / HNC in Civil Engineering or a related subject.
- At least 2 years' relevant experience - ideally within a consultancy or private sector development setting.
- Solid AutoCAD skills (or similar CAD software), with the ability to work from mark-ups, sketches, and specifications.
- Understanding of UK highway design principles; lighting design experience is a bonus (training provided if not).
- Knowledge of Section 38 and 278 drawings for planning, tender, and construction.
- Familiarity with relevant UK guidance such as Manual for Streets, DMRB, and local authority standards.
- Experience with 3D software (e.g. Site3D or Civil 3D) would be a plus - but not essential.
- A positive, proactive attitude and the ability to take on increasing responsibility within the team.
Why This Role Stands Out:
- Work on a diverse range of private sector infrastructure projects.
- Join a team with a strong growth trajectory and genuine opportunities for progression.
- Enjoy a healthy work-life balance, professional autonomy, and the backing of a collaborative team.
- Access to ongoing learning, training, and career development support.
This is a great chance to join a consultancy where you'll feel valued and supported while making a real impact on the projects you work on. If you're looking for a role that offers variety, development, and a strong team culture - this could be the one for you!
