Job Title: Communications Officer

Location: Crawley, Southampton or Maple Cross

Business Area: Regional Buildings Southern

To coordinate all communications and marketing activity in the region, supporting local operational leaders, bid and project teams.

Coordinate all communications activities to support the business priorities and objectives for the region, aligned to overall business stream priorities.

Responsible, under the guidance of the Head of Submissions, for the timely production of a wide range of internal and external communications across a variety of media. Work closely with overall business stream communications team to ensure all activity is coordinated across PR, marketing and internal comms feeding into business and Group wide channels. Currently these include internal and external updates (electronic and printed), social media posts, and marketing collateral..

The post-holder will need to be self-motivated and confident and be capable of building good working relationships with a wide range of people, both internal and external. Knowledge of the construction industry is not important but enthusiasm, a demonstrable gift for communication and excellent organisations skills are.

Job responsibilities

  • Building strong working relationships with key stakeholders in the region, keeping abreast of what's happening in the business to in order to communicate key milestones, project progress, and support with site branding
  • Support regional events (e.g. topping outs; key milestone celebrations, Open Doors Week), including event organisation, client liaison (as appropriate) and local media relations.
  • Ensure that projects and local successes are promoting by coordinating and drafting award entries for local / regional projects; monitoring local / regional presence on the Kier website, and drafting and submitting project case studies for use across different channels
  • Draft copy for different channels (including social media, website case studies, internal comms, marketing materials etc) and feed into business Marcomms team for business and Group wide channels
  • Provide support to promote CSR/social value activity happening across the projects and in the regional, connecting with other Kier businesses in the area to ensure a joined-up approach
  • Advise on all photography, video and timelapse footage for projects in the region and ensure this is available via the marketing hub as (appropriate) and logged following the business stream process
  • Coordinate internal communications across the business
  • Act as the gatekeeper for all materials produced in the region to ensure Kier brand compliance (e.g. social media, all marketing collateral including e-marketing, leaflets, posters, newsletters, merchandise etc.) and quality of materials.
What do we need from you?
Ability to work to the highest standards, demonstrating resilience to pressure and uncertainty, retaining due professionalism.

Skilled at developing productive relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Proven experience in dealing with and influencing senior business unit leaders, and confident at networking and building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

Experience in a similar role, with a proven track record in developing and executing multi-channel communications programmes.

Experience of qualitative and quantitative research to understand target markets to inform strategy and approach.

Excellent organisational skills and the ability to project manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and work under pressure and to deadline.

Exceptional verbal, written and editing skills, and in particular the ability to write in different styles to reflect the nature of the target audience and core messages.

Experience in business to business markets.
