Laing O'Rourke are currently recruiting for a Construction Manager to work on our flagship project - Oxford Ellison.

The Lawrence J. Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine will continue the Institute's work in cancer research, disease prevention, and global health policy, along with providing educational programming for students from around the globe.

A newly constructed building in The Oxford Science Park will be home to further research laboratories and educational spaces, laid out to promote collaboration and flexibility. This includes a roof-top wooden geodesic dome overlooking the surrounding tree canopy.

The two buildings will be connected by an elevated tree covered walkway to enhance access and promote collaboration between both sites.

Role / Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the achievement of Laing O' Rourke safety targets and zero tolerance of unsafe working practices and occurrences
  • To deliver the sub project to the client within budget, Quality Assurance standards, on programme and to stringent safety parameters
  • To work with the planning team to develop detailed and accurate short term programmes of work
  • To assess the staff capability and performance
  • To manage the budget and delivery of the section of the project
  • To provide accurate and timely reporting of progress against the plan
  • To ensure adoption of innovative ideas from within the business and from the workforce
  • To plan the programming of day to day resource requirement and communicate these to the construction team
  • To interface with other construction managers and sections managers to share best practice and ensure effective resource utilisation
  • To monitor external changes to work plans and report the effect of change
  • To lead section meetings to review safety, quality, progress and design.
  • To ensure effective implementation Laing O Rourke project management systems and procedures
  • Contribute to the contract review process.
  • To chair safety committee meetings on a monthly basis, take minutes, distribute and carry out all actions.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in Construction Management OR Civil Engineering (or related degree level qualification)
  • Proven experience working on projects of similar scale in high-end capacity
  • Healthcare experience is adventageous but not essential
  • High-end experience essential
  • Detailed knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation
  • Leadership and people management skills
  • Thorough understanding of project flow and demand fulfilment
  • Good knowledge of plant and equipment
