Our client have a 3 year contract to build the earthworks on sections 4&5 of the A14 Improvement Works.
They are in the process of building a team of 25 staff to manage the works.
Construction manager role:
Likely to be Sub Agent / Agent level with a main contractor / large subcontractor in previous employment. Experience in earthworks / highway construction generally is highly desirable.
Managing self and 2 construction engineers to:
Ensure the works are being built correctly to specification. Advise / suggest construction methods, technical detail, alternatives, Value Engineering etc
Input into the weekly programmes, disseminate the programmes to the team and work closely with the foremen to ensure activities are carried out as planned
Ensure the planned works are able to progress on time with regard to availability of permits, RAMS, setting out / model info
Chase TQ's / RFI's to ensure answers are given promptly and are favourable to us where possible
Identify CE's / additional works and notify Commercial team. Ensure a thorough understanding of the subcontract and what works we are required to carry out.
Ensure quality records are produced to a good standard and supplied to quality manager
Identify NCR's and report promptly to avoid disallowed costs
Set up procedures to ensure information is available for KPI's
Liaise with Client to ensure : Good relations maintained, works are available as programmed, interfaces planned, problems are solved, value engineering discussed.
Ensure safety standards are upheld and engineering staff are actively engaged in the promoting and policing.
Mentor / motivate engineering staff and ensure they are given a suitable level of responsibility. Must be willing and able to manage junior staff and deal with the Clients senior management in the absence of the Senior Project Manager.
Knowledge of earthworks, highways construction generally, and NEC option C target cost contracts is desirable.
An ability to work well with all levels of staff from all backgrounds, but most especially earthworks foremen is required.
