Controller Job in Manhattan, New York City

Seeking an experienced financial Controller for our client, an architecture and design firm based in New York. The ideal candidate will have a background in finance or accounting within an architectural or design firm and have a good amount of experience with managing accounts, setting up payroll, and invoice management. The role is offering a salary of up to $90,000 + hybrid working + 401k plan & other benefits. Immediate start available!

Established in 2005, our client has grown and developed over the years, now completing circa 140 projects a year for a range of clients, both locally and internationally; typically ranging between 5,000 - 50,000 SF. This role will see you join a team consisting of architects, designers and creatives. The role plays a key part of the team, managing the office activities and assisting in all aspects of financial management/reporting.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounts for both receivable and payable transactions
  • Raise invoices, collections, and payment allocations
  • Manage and administer expenses for projects, coding and cash disbursements
  • Financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting (using Quickbooks and Excel)
  • Compiling and creating Change Orders
  • Administration of payroll and timesheets, collating information for processing and submission (external)
  • Work with the directors to establish new processes and refine working methods
  • Assist in HR-related activities, alongside the directors

Required Skills & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Accounting, Finance, or similar
  • 4+ years' experience working as a Controller, or holding a similar position
  • Experience using Quickbooks and Excel
  • Prior experience compiling payroll reports
  • Knowledge of employment law/HR best practice is highly desirable
