In line with these plans we are now looking for a Deputy Commercial Director to join us in this journey. The role of Deputy Commercial Director is to support to protect the integrity, reputation and sustainability of the Gleeson approach to the commercial operational practices, standards and controls providing key commentary and analysis of all development/build-related expenditure across the business. You will also work with the wider finance team to ensure quality financial data is shared across the business enabling better business decisions.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver key commercial commentary and insight on performance including margins, pricing and competitor analysis
  • Working collaboratively across disciplines to ensure projects run to budget, modelling demand, technical support, capital planning and cash flows, challenging stakeholders and senior management communications
  • Business partnering with senior management in supporting strategy setting, influencing decision making and cost management
  • Work closely with operational teams to identify opportunities to improve productivity and understand commercial capacity
  • Support commercial budgeting and forecasting, ensuring budget holders have accurate financial data to make quick and effective decisions
  • Identify opportunities to improve commercial reporting processes as part of the ongoing continuous improvement programme
  • Ensure the regional commercial teams are fully resourced and well-directed, with clear guidelines to their own job responsibilities, and are provided with full support in achieving these, in terms of communication, training and development
  • Responsible for the approval of the site start budgets, liaising with all regions to ensure documents are completed on time and comply with group policies and procedures

  • Attendance at divisional valuation meetings
  • Audit all subcontractor recommendations to ensure compliance with group policies and procedures
  • Authorise subcontract orders, payments and variations in line with group policies and procedures
  • Be aware of new materials and methods of construction which the business may employ
  • Responsibility for accurately controlling all commercial aspects and responsibilities
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors from a Commercial department perspective
  • Any other duties as required by the Group Commercial Director
  • Promote and act in accordance with group values, systems, policies, and procedures

Ideal Candidate

  • Previous experience of operating in a Commercial Finance Manager/Commercial Manager role or above.
  • Ideally fully qualified (ACA/CIMA/ACCA or equivalent) with good commercial acumen and an inquisitive mindset.
  • Prior experience working in a business facing capacity, influencing a range of stakeholders of key commercial issues.
  • Excellent Excel skills are essential given the volume of data analysis within the roles and experience using financial models would be significantly advantageous.
  • Prior experience gained within a construction or housebuilding environment (desirable but not essential)
  • Prior experience using BI systems and/or COINS would be significantly advantageous.
