Design Engineer

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer to be responsible for leading and delivering design and engineering support to the whole business.

The Company

The successful Design Engineer will be working for an employer who are a leading manufacturer, an independently owned business that have been in existence for over 50 years.

The Right Person

The successful Design Engineer will have standalone design management experience working to a high level on multiple engineering designs. Most of all, you will have previous Supervisory or Managerial experience as you will be responsible for leading a team of people within the Design area of the business.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • To perform Design, Research and Development activities to ensure completion of all projects on time, in full and to agreed budget
  • Support the compilation of functional and technical specifications
  • Lead designated design projects, ensuring compliance with the project plans and completion on time, in full and to agreed budget
  • Maintain project files information, ensuring accuracy, completion and version control
  • Ensure products conform to appropriate technical standards & directives as well as health & safety legislation
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and technical personnel
  • Confer with project personnel and production personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems
  • Assist with the production of technical quotations for special machines
  • Work with and support other departments
  • Ensure that the wider business plan is communicated to your direct reports, ensuring that they understand how, when and why they can contribute to the business plan.
Ideal Experience

  • Standalone Design Management experience working to a high level on multiple engineering designs
  • A Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Engineering Design and analytic Skills
  • Modelling experience (SolidWorks)
  • You will have a good understanding of fundamental principles behind design decisions gained in an industrial/automation
  • Awareness of the selection of materials e.g: composite, ferrous, non-ferrous, plastics, as well as finishes.
