They are a main contractor working on a unique civil engineering scheme and are looking to add a Design Manager to their team. The role offers the chance to work on a project with interesting engineering challenges and within a truly collabarative team.

The company has a strong forward order book of work and will be able to offer further work within a similar geographic location in the future.

The role

  • Take ownership of the full design lifecycle, from initial concept development through detailed design and delivery on site, ensuring high-quality, coordinated, and constructible solutions are achieved on schedule.
  • Lead the integration of technical input from multidisciplinary teams and external partners, maintaining alignment with project objectives and performance standards.
  • Ensure all design processes are managed in line with contractual requirements (NEC4 or similar), including formal submissions, technical queries, and contributions to early warning notifications, compensation event assessments, and change control processes where appropriate.
  • Guarantee that all design activities fully comply with CDM 2015 regulations and relevant safety legislation.
  • Chair and facilitate design coordination meetings, technical reviews, and buildability assessments to drive continuous improvement and assurance.
  • Monitor the interface between design outputs and the construction schedule, proactively identifying design-related risks, constraints, and opportunities to support programme efficiency.
  • Encourage innovation and value engineering throughout the design process to deliver technically sound and cost-effective project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of key documentation such as Flood Management Plans, Emergency Drawdown Procedures, and Safety Reports, working closely with the client and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Coordinate engagement with qualified Panel Engineers to ensure appropriate technical and statutory oversight throughout design and construction phases.
  • Serve as the main liaison between design teams, construction personnel, clients, and wider project stakeholders to ensure effective communication and alignment.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of design decisions, approvals, and revisions in line with project governance requirements.
  • Oversee and integrate specialist design elements.
