Location: Flexible working available, where you'll be working on sites across London and working with our teams based out of our Loughton & Basingstoke offices 2-3 days a week, with some home working available

Contract & hours: Permanent, full time - Monday to Friday
Kier Places are recruiting now for an experienced Design Manager to join our passionate Capital Projects team, working on projects in London, to manage and coordinate the design process at either pre-construction stage and / or construction stage of multiple projects. With our diverse portfolio of projects, we are looking for an individual who has a passion for the project at hand, and securing work, whilst also being able to work as part of a closely knit team that has the opportunity to develop and control its own destiny. We understand this approach is essential to ensure we consistently win work and secure repeat business.
The Capital Projects Team have a pipeline of opportunities to deliver cladding replacement projects to residential buildings in the London area & surrounding counties. You will be joining a newly formed team specialising in this new workstream which has huge long-term growth opportunity, in which successful applicants will have a huge opportunity to grow and develop as this new workstream evolves.
You will be working on a portfolio of construction & refurbishment projects predominantly in the occupied residential building arena, varying in size and complexity ranging in value from £1 million to £30 million, and are centred around external fabric replacement and refurbishment, fire safety improvements, decarbonisation/energy efficiency measures & general upgrading.
Key Responsibilities
As a Design Manager with Kier Capital Projects, your role will be key to planned and sustained business growth through the production of client focused bid proposals within our core markets across the UK.
Your focus will be on leading and owning the Design management process and working collaboratively with our pre-construction and operational teams, where we will look to you to lead internal and external design resources to ensure that high-quality design information is produced in a proper and timely manner; risks are identified, managed and appropriately apportioned; all designs by subcontractors and subconsultants are completed in a timely and co-ordinated manner, whilst attending and hosting pre-tender and post tender design team meetings, and managing relationships with the Client and the appointed professional teams.
What do we need from you?
To be a Design Manager with Kier, you'll hold relevant qualifications relating to Construction, Design Management and/or RIBA Stages (especially Stages 5+); have good all-round, technical construction knowledge & Building Regulations, especially relating to external construction and refurbishment; and have experience in a Main / Tier 1 Contractor with?similar public sector experience within mid/high-rise Residential or Commercial projects?for?fit-outs, responsive maintenance, refurbishments, planned works, capital construction, or cladding schemes.
Collaborative working with all external and internal stakeholders will be crucial, so you will bring your experience of managing the design process including motivating & encouraging internal and external design teams and multi-disciplinary design teams, ensuring drawings and designs are produced on time to a high quality & are easy to decipher, and appropriately using your technical expertise and thorough understanding of the RIBA Stages of Design.
