Design Manger - Highways and Local Authority (HS2 Birmingham)

A main Joint Venture within the civil engineering industry requires a Design Manager for one of their HS2 packages based in Birmingham. To deliver a haul road into multiple work sites they require a Design Manager with proven experience in highways in a local authority environment.

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Design Manager will have a dual role - overseeing the design team, whilst also assisting in the mobilisation of the contract

You will be responsible for

  • Managing the design team
  • Coordination of design deliverables
  • Checking of documentation and managing issued documentation
  • Managing design database
  • Providing the crucial link between designers and site operational staff
  • Working alongside delivery team to mobilise contract
  • Working with the Supply Chain to ensure levels of service in terms of quality and safe working practices are maintained to a high level and compliant with standards/legislation.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Knowledge of design delivery process and procedures gained through successful experience of design and design management for highway projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant local authority legislation and how it relates to design implementation.
  • Knowledge of appropriate design standards and procedures.
  • Proven experience managing design consultants.
  • Relevant degree or diploma.
  • Membership of an appropriate Institution (ICE, IStructE, etc.).
