Introduction:
Kier Strategic Highways are looking to recruit a Design Team Leader to join the South West Design Services contract in either Bristol, Cardiff or Exeter.
Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.
Key Responsibilities:
Project manage and with the assistance of geotechnical team members, deliver geotechnical schemes on time and to budget.
Manage any geotechnical inputs for schemes across the full portfolio of other disciplines.
Production, checking and authorising of preliminary sources studies.
Supervision of ground investigations.
Production, checking and authorising of geotechnical reports.
Preparing, checking and authorising design calculations and drawings, as required.
Preparing, checking and authorising technical documents and reports, as required.
Dealing with project related correspondence, as required.
Maintaining high technical standards, consistent with the project brief.
Developing, mentoring and supervision of Geotechnical staff.
Managing the Geotechnical Team.
Assisting in project administration and control including monitoring of costs and programme
Ensure compliance with the Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience and appropriate qualifications in geotechnical engineering, ideally with chartered experience.
Strong technical skills and experience in a combination of key Geotechnical fields as set out above.
Proven project management of highway structures projects or tasks up to £5M and delivery to programme and budget in a safe environment.
Experience in developing, checking and authorising contract documents in accordance with relevant Highway contracts.
A thorough knowledge of Highways England Design Manuals and Specifications.
To be able to work with or advise key clients on technical issues in the highway sector at a senior level.
Good working knowledge of H&S procedures in the both the inspection of Highway Structures and the CDM Regulations.
