Introduction:

Kier Strategic Highways are currently recruiting for a Network Control Centre Coordinator to join the Area 6&8 Highways Maintenance Contract. Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as first point of contact for developers and contractors during the construction phase for work associated with new streets proposed to be adopted by the County Council and works within the existing highway required to facilitate development
  • Monitor the work of developers and contractors for compliance with approved documentation, specification and planning
  • Monitor the work of developers and contractors for compliance with the correct agreements and permits, as well as material specification and testing
  • Identify non-compliant work, agree remedial action and monitor rectification
  • Monitor works on the Highway for operational safety, including traffic management
  • Liaise with the developer/designer/contractor and Development Management and Technical Audit Team in identifying necessary design changes required to deliver an acceptable and compliant scheme. Monitor compliance with the subsequent notified design changes
  • Liaise, where necessary, with other departments and bodies including (but not limited to) street lighting, traffic signals, bus and rail, structures and utilities companies
  • Be proactive in minimising future maintenance liabilities
  • Confirm completion of civil-works for maintenance and/or adoption certification
  • Maintain data base of projects, maintain records of inspections and audits. Record observations of compliance failures, remedial work and satisfactory completion. Maintain records of correspondence. Agree 'as-built' records.
Key Skills and Qualifications:

Essential
  • HNC/HND Level or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Relevant CSCS card
  • Experience of Highways Engineering and Highways design standards
  • Experience in the supervision of Highways works at site level
  • Understanding of CDM
  • Understanding of Safety at Street Works, Road Works, Safety Audits and environmental legislation

Desirable
  • Related continual professional development
  • Incorporated Engineer
  • Understanding of 'Chapter 8 Traffic Signs Manual'
  • Experience of managing schemes and other resources
