Environmental Advisor

Location: Tempsford or Guildford

Project: Regional Civils

Kier Infrastructure is looking to recruit an Environmental Advisor who will support the Regional Civils business which delivers small to medium sized civil engineering projects throughout the UK. The role is suitable for a candidate looking to develop their skills and knowledge in relation to environmental management. The candidate must be willing to travel as regular attendance at the regional offices and sites across the UK will be required.

The main purpose of this job role is to assist project teams with day to day environmental management through the tender and construction phases with emphasis on ecology, waste and assurance. A candidate with an ecological background including experience of survey work and liaison with regulators such as Natural England would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Undertake extended phase 1 surveys, preliminary ecological appraisals and ecological watching briefs and liaise with regulators in relation to protected species licences and non-statutory and statutory designated sites
  • Assist the project teams with waste management and duty of care requirements, working knowledge of Smartwaste is desirable.
  • Provide advice and support to management and project delivery teams on compliance with environmental legislation.
  • Assist the project teams with environmental documentation such as the Environmental Management Plan.
  • Undertake regular environmental compliance inspections on site.
  • Prepare and deliver environmental briefings and toolbox talks to encourage a proactive working environment and prevent environmental incidents.
  • Assist the project teams with developing and implementing environmental best practice on site and demonstrate the commercial benefit of green initiatives.
  • Drive sustainability initiatives and undertake monitoring against KPIs to ensure continual improvement.

  • Skills and Experience
  • Qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in an appropriate environmental discipline.
  • Working towards ACIEEM/PIEMA or similar is desirable.
  • Ecology experience/background and protected species licence(s) would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience of civil engineering, rail or large multidisciplinary projects is desirable.
  • The ability to positively influence others.
  • Adaptable team player with good initiative and strong problem solving skills.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated with the ability to self-learn.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including delivery of training and toolbox talks to site teams.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • The willingness and ability to travel nationally (UK driving licence is essential).
