Position - Environmental Advisor

Location - Offices and projects from Manchester, Liverpool and North Wales

Kier Construction North West is looking to recruit an Environmental Advisor to report into the Environment Manager.

As a key member of the delivery team, the Environmental Advisor will assist with the development and delivery of projects throughout the UK. The role will focus upon adding value to the business development and operational teams by developing and driving client-focused sustainability initiatives, providing specialist support during business development activities and improving environmental decision-making of project-based personnel, including supply-chain members.

The role will demand mobility to suit existing and potential workloads and will require regular attendance at the regional offices and the various projects run from those offices.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that an effective Environmental Management system is being operated and maintained at all levels
  • Continually review and evaluate the Environmental Management systems with all employees for adequacy and effectiveness
  • Provide an independent channel of communication on environmental matters, initiating necessary action to resolve deficiencies and ensuring satisfactory solutions have been achieved
  • Ensure audits are undertaken in accordance with the audit schedule and any adverse findings are closed out in a timely manner
  • Undertaking Environmental Inspections at each of the sites regularly
  • Ensure necessary consents and licences needed to execute the project is available and current
  • Provide guidance and assistance on Environmental matters
  • Ensure Environmental incidents are investigated and the appropriate corrective and preventative action is completed
  • Provide site training on the requirements of the Environmental Management systems
  • Encourage feedback from all employees and subcontractors on possible areas of improvement and investigate the benefit of any employee recommendations regarding Environmental matters
  • Evaluate non-conformances to identify any apparent adverse trends
  • Demonstrate commitment.
Key skills and qualifications:
  • Qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in an appropriate environmental discipline.
  • Experience of Civil Engineering or Construction and large multidisciplinary projects preferred.
  • A minimum of three years related experience as an Environmental Advisor; and a good working knowledge and practical application of legislation, guidance and standards relevant to construction.
  • Preferably PIEMA and lead environmental auditor
  • Experience of driving and assessing sustainability.
  • The ability to positively influence others.
  • Adaptable team player with good initiative and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated with the ability to self-learn.
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
