We are currently looking to recruit an Environmental Health Officer with an EHRB certificate, for work in the Public Sector Housing division of a Local Authority, based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.

The key duties will include;

  • Enforcing a range of legislation with a particular focus on the Housing Act 2004 legislation to deliver the Council and Housing Licensing objectives.
  • Investigation of all complaints of disrepair, unfitness, and other matters relating to housing conditions and to take informal/statutory action to secure the most appropriate course of action.
  • Maintain a practical up to date knowledge of best practice and developments in all relevant areas, whilst taking a lead professional role in identifying and implementing revised working practices within a specific area of work.
  • Liaise closely and work with internal services and external bodies and ensure engagement in and promotion of partnership activities to create safer neighbourhoods and safeguarding of those at risk.
  • Investigate offences, issue legal notices, proceedings and prepare prosecution files

For this role, the ideal candidates must have;

  • NQF Level 6 qualification e.g. Bachelor Degrees, Graduate Certificates and Diplomas, or NQF Level 5 qualification e.g. Diplomas of HE and FE, foundation degrees and HNDs, plus experience in relevant areas of work over a period of years
  • Certificate of registration with EHRB
  • Qualification in a related specialist field e.g. Housing Health & Safety Rating System
  • Driving Licence

This duration for this role is 34 weeks.

Out of Hours work will be required which will include late nights, weekends and public holidays. This may relate to individual investigations, planned operations and as part of a rota. Emergency response and interventions at short notice may also be required in response to service needs. A Disclosure and Barring Service Check at an Enhanced Level is required to qualify for the role.
