Job Purpose:
To provide environmental specialist support to the Design Services.
To produce comprehensive and accurate scheme designs/surveys and/or feasibility studies in accordance with the scheme brief and in line with the time and budgetary allocations.
To carry out environmental assessments and provide environmental support and advice as required.
Tasks/Responsibilities as follows:
- Developing and designing solutions in accordance with Highways England and other client standards, procedures and requirements and also meeting environmental requirements e.g. Environment Agency and Natural England.
- Production of accurate and concise scheme documents and reports.
- Production of designs that comply with relevant health and safety legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations.
- Mentoring and supervision of junior environmental staff, as appropriate.
- Programming of assessments, further site surveys, watching briefs on behalf of the project manager.
- Input into scoping and assessment for large scale improvements.
- Determination of risk and receptors for environmental, heritage, ecological features and design mitigation for impacts.
- Undertaking desk studies and site surveys for Value Management and technical survey.
- Keep up to date with new environmental policies and legislation.
- Input and review of the relevant procedures.
- Undertake Environmental Impact Assessments and contribute to the Impacts Register.
- Actively promote Health and Safety in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.
- Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required.
Typical Skills/Experience as follows:
- Essential: IT, numeracy and literacy skills, able to operate spreadsheet systems, input, extract and present complex data to communicate with others.
- Relevant degree and related experience in environmental management.
- Post graduate qualification desirable.
- Experience in a Highways/Construction environment.
- Specialist knowledge of environmental topics desirable e.g. ecology, landscape, noise assessments etc
- A full UK driving licence
