Title: Ganger Salary and benefits: A competitive salary, 21 days paid annual leave, access to a wide range of company benefits, on the job training and potential for additional skills/accreditations. Location: Sturton, Lincolnshire Business Area: Local Highways Introduction: Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.








Key Responsibilities:







  • Safe keeping and operation of significant plant including vans, pickups and vehicles up to HGV Class C, heavy rollers, loading shovels, etc. including responsibility for their daily maintenance
  • Setting out and laying kerbing, drainage, concrete work, flag and block paving, bricklaying, drains, installing gullies, manholes and catchment pits. Setting up shuttering, fixing reinforcement and concreting and finishing to structures. (Where applicable)
  • Responsibility for ensuring the economic use of materials
  • Placing, spreading, levelling and compaction of stone, coated materials, concrete, etc to accurate levels
  • Excavation of soil, rock, asphalt, concrete etc using hand and powered tools
  • Hand sweeping, cleaning and washing weed control, litter picking, loading, unloading and general handling of materials and equipment
  • Wear the correct PPE and follow all safety rules and safety working practices
  • Participate in winter maintenance and emergency standby and call out duties when required
  • Work to KierWSP, Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards



Key Skills and Qualifications:



  • Relevant CSCS card for level of work
  • Current driving licence up to HGV Class C + E
  • First aid certificate
  • Preferred Competencies:



  • Previous experience at level Ganger/Road Worker 3 level or equivalent with appropriate certificates for that level
  • Has completed all training laid down by the SHE matrix for the level of work
  • Satisfactory completion of construction skills course or alternative qualification by experience
  • Training in complex plant operation and/or complex setting out
  • Holds certificate to operate at least two major pieces of relevant plant or equipment
  • Available for winter maintenance and call outs
  • Ability to respond to members of the public in a polite manner
  • Ability to assist and mentor RW1, RW2's and apprentices
  • Able to undertake their work activities in a safe manner in compliance with the KierWSP health and safety management system and not compromising the health and safety of their colleagues, subcontractors, the client and members of the public
