A fantastic opportunity has become available for an experienced General Foreman within Kier Highways Team. Reporting to the Team Leader/Assistant Team Leader the main purpose of this role is to manage and supervise small teams holding accountability for HMO behaviors' when carrying out their operational duties including HR, HSEQ, Commercial and Administration. It also includes responsibility for Delivery of Routine, Severe Weather and Reactive, Maintenance Services as directed by the Supervisor and also Renewal Schemes within our Operational Capabilities, carrying out a variety of manual and non-manual highway maintenance duties as instructed on a day to day basis to ensure the efficient running of the network.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Actively promote Health and Safety & Company 'culture' in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of, and compliance with, general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.
  • Undertake start of Shift briefings with all operational staff to ensure risks and hazards are properly identified and managed and maintain relevant records.
  • Attend shift handover meetings to ensure adequate information is passed over form outgoing shift to incoming shift and vice versa.
  • Where appropriate, perform the TMF/LTMO role or the Lead Installer role.
  • Provide the safe installation of TTM layouts in accordance with the appropriate drawings and instructions and carry out routine maintenance activities within established TTM making best use road space.
  • Ensure Work packs are relevant and suitable for purpose, ensuring all site specific hazards are managed. Make adjustments to work packs as necessary in agreement with the Team Leader / Assistant Team Leader
  • Undertake inspections / audits to monitor workmanship and material quantities for all works, ensuring the relevant records are maintained.
  • Undertake standby duties during the week and weekends for incident response and winter maintenance response
  • Ensure completion of ALL relevant site records, daily allocation sheets, daily handover reports, diaries, DCP information, accident/incident documentation, audit checks etc
  • Ensure that Severe Weather Service is carried out as per instructions and all paperwork is correct and completed in full
  • Assist with the management of incidents and defects cascaded through the ROC
  • Liaise with the ROC, Highways England Traffic Officers and Police to instigate operational remedial actions to minimise congestion and risk to the customer
  • Manage & Monitor attendance of operatives and carry out return to work meetings with all operatives on first shift to establish fitness for work. Escalate any ongoing health concerns to relevant local Team Leader/Routine Delivery Manager.
  • Completing vehicle Gate Checks each week to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all relevant driver/vehicle records are maintained.
  • Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required.
  • Able to demonstrate experience or knowledge of team leadership, people management skills
  • Responsibility for depot cleanliness and housekeeping e.g. TM equipment / VRS stock
  • Ensure all relevant driver/vehicle records are maintained
  • Assist in the performance, competency and development of Operational Staff in accordance to business needs
  • Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required
What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will

  • Able to work on own initiative to resolve problems effectively
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptable and flexible to cope with the variety of responsibilities involved and to suit peaks and troughs in workload
  • Highway Maintenance experience
  • Winter Maintenance NVQ and experience
  • Incident Management Experience
Appropriate Qualifications/knowledge

  • 12A, B, C, D Lantra Certificated
  • TMF/LTMO Certificated where appropriate
  • 2B Lead Installer Certificated
  • CSCS accreditation for level of post
  • Full Driving licence. LGV License preferred
