General Operative - Surface Treatments

Fixed Term Contract: April - August

Location: Retford

Salary: £8.38 - £9.64 ph

Kier Local Highways are currently recruiting for a General Operative to join our seasonal surface treatments business. The season is expected to last for around 20 weeks.

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Recognise opportunities to reduce costs and improve margins through innovations or working smarter
  • Produce quality work and maximum financial return in a safe and professional manner
  • Working to ensure we provide a high quality cost effective service to our Client
  • Whilst driving/operating vehicles or plant, ensure all daily checks are carried out and recorded. Ensure that whilst driving you do so in a safe and courteous manner and within legal requirements at all times
  • Carry out your responsibilities in an efficient and safe manner
  • Take ownership and communicate any issues on site
  • Establish good working relationships with Foreman, Agent/Supervisor and other work colleagues
  • Be flexible and carry out duties required of you, for which you are trained and considered competent
  • Behave at all times in a manner that is befitting of a Kier employee and that you do not act in a manner which may bring the Company, the Client or its agents into disrepute
Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Full UK Drivers Licence
  • Experience in Surface Treatments or Highway Maintenance Industry (NVQ 2)
  • Sector Scheme 12d Qualifications (M1/2)
  • Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card - Blue - Skilled Worker
  • First Aid certificate
  • Holder of a CPC Card (LGV roles)
  • Holder of CAT C driving licence (LGV roles)
