Introduction:

Kier Strategic Highways are looking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer to join the South West Design Services contract in either Bristol or Exeter.

Kier Highways design roads, bridges and intelligent transport systems (ITS), covering strategic and nationally important roads, as well as local roads serving local communities. Our projects range from major improvements to complete renewals of roads and structures. With specialist teams, we manage complex works from conception through to handover at the end of maintenance periods.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivery of geotechnical schemes on time and to budget.
  • Production of preliminary sources studies.
  • Supervision of ground investigations.
  • Production of geotechnical reports.
  • Preparing design calculations and drawings, as required.
  • Dealing with project related correspondence, as required.
  • Maintaining high technical standards, consistent with the project brief.
  • Assisting in project administration and control including monitoring of costs and programme
  • Ensure compliance with the Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Comply with relevant health and safety legislation, particularly CDM Regulations
  • Perform other duties as may from time to time be reasonably required.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
  • Significant experience in the detailed design of geotechnical projects
  • Degree in Civil Engineering and professional membership of the ICE or Geological Society. Ideally chartered or working towards chartered.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical asset management techniques.
  • A thorough knowledge of Highways England Design Manuals and Specifications
  • Experience using quality, environmental and health and safety legislation and management systems, particularly CDM 2015
  • Project and programme management, with ability to use MS Project advantageous
  • Ability to use AutoCAD or Civils 3D
