Facilities Management where people come first.

The Kier Facilities Management team offers an incredibly wide range of innovative management and maintenance solutions, right across the UK - from the RAF Duxford base that welcomes over 20,000 visitors a year, to local fire stations that help protect millions of people. We're a crucial part of Kier Places, providing hard and soft facilities management to hundreds of Government department sites and public buildings - offering you a role that will challenge and reward you, every single day.

Kier Places are recruiting today for a Handyperson, where your role will be key to supporting the delivery of a Facilities Management Hard & Technical Services solution for our prestigious client, the Ministry of Justice. You will be providing planned & reactive general maintenance across the Ministry of Justice National Probation Service Estate, covering an operational area of Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire and near counties.

Key Responsibilities

This Handyperson role will carry out general, small repairs (e.g. re-fixing door handles, loose hinges/items, replace slats in blinds, shower fixings and rails) working on our FM contract we hold with the Ministry of Justice. You will carry out maintenance on loose carpeting, hanging and re-fixing items to walls, patching paintwork and minor drain blockages, toilet seat re-fixing and replacement. Small scale movement of furniture and boxes will also be a requirement. This is not an exhaustive list, but as you can see the role will carry out a varying degree of maintenance work.

This is a mobile role that covers Authorised Premises for the Ministry of Justice across the Luton, Bedford & Peterborough area.

Who are we looking for?

This role requires someone with previous experience in a similar all-round general maintenance role and be comfortable working within occupied properties. You will preferably have water hygiene training; however, this can be something the successful applicant can be trained up on. You will have the capability to attempt light plumbing repairs and general lamp replacement.

You will need to have outstanding communication skills and a proactive attitude, alongside some experience within the Building Services, Facilities Management or Property Maintenance sector.

Due to the nature of this role, you should have a clean driver's licence, and be willing to work on the callout rota (1 week in 4) which can require evening and weekend callouts.

What will you receive?

You can expect a competitive salary and a strong benefits package that includes: free life assurance, access to our valuable pension scheme, generous annual leave entitlement and many more! To find out more about the rewards and benefits at Kier, click here.

Pre-employment checks

It's worth remembering that if you are successful, we'll undertake the relevant / standard pre-employment checks after you have been offered a job. This includes taking up your references, verifying your right to work in the UK, verifying your driving licence (if applicable) and a health assessment.

Due to the nature of this role, you will also be required to complete a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service Check (applicants with criminal convictions will be treated on a case by case basis. We do not discriminate based on an applicant's criminal record or the details of any offences disclosed to us). Some roles may also be subject to further pre-employment checks.
