Position: Head of Construction
Location: Dublin 22
Salary: Negotiable DOE
JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to lead and manage the Construction function. This incorporates the following Departments: Design, Procurement and site installation and production planning. This role is responsible for ensuring the management of centralised, integrated, smooth-flowing, well documented and easily accessible processes through the above Departments.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
- Meticulous planning and monitoring of the day-to-day running of each Department is within the remit of this role, in conjunction with the Department Managers, to ensure the smooth progression of projects.
- In conjunction with Department managers improve and further implement standardised processes and template documents to be followed by all Departments, in line with best practice. Such as but not limited to; a common programme template/system and information flow.
- Oversee daily activities for each Department, to maximise scheduling and real-time utilisation of resources and workforce management planning.
- Identify ways to increase efficiency across the Departments.
- Develop and set key performance indicators and SLA metrics for each Department.
- Ensure projects are completed on time as per the agreed programme and according to specifications and quality standards.
- Enact contingency plans as needed; escalate and direct activities during a project if a problem is encountered.
- Lead a 'lessons learned' analysis of any problems encountered during a project, providing input for future process improvements.
- Develop, execute and own strategies and plans across each of the Departments.
- Maintain and grow relationships with suppliers, clients, engineers, consultants and other key stakeholders, both internally and externally, to optimise operational performance.
- Develop, monitor and report on operating costs within functional areas.
- Monthly reporting of Project Status - budget & forecasts.
- Keep up to date on information and technology affecting the functional areas to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
- Assist in the delivery of key operational and strategic projects for the business.
- Attend Board meetings and fulfil the key reporting requirements to the Board.
- Develop, manage and motivate the teams within each of the Departments that fall under the scope of this role.
- Partner with the HR Department to hire, train, develop and appraise Department teams effectively.
- Establish credibility throughout the business and with the rest of the SMT, as an effective developer of solutions to meet business requirements.
- Other ad hoc duties as required.
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of Construction Industry experience
- Experience of working within the construction industry is essential, and façades knowledge would be desirable.
- A third-level qualification in an Engineering / Construction Management / Project Management discipline (or comparable equivalent) would be desirable.
- MBA or further leadership education desirable but not essential
- Proven success in achieving project programmes.
- Possess extensive knowledge of project management principles and practices, and an ability to coach others on them.
- Ability to work on own initiative and take full responsibility for own function.
- Demonstrated commercial acumen.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- This is a Senior Leadership role, previous experience with board reporting required.
