Health & Safety Advisor Full time - Competitive Salary Hope Cement Works, Derbyshire

We are currently seeking a Health & Safety Advisor within our Cement division, based at Hope Cement Works, Derbyshire. You will report to the Health & Safety Manager and the Key Responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Provide pertinent professional advice to others across the site within a timely manner in order to facilitate informed decision making
  • Facilitate incident investigations, including identification of immediate and root causes and the generation of suitable actions
  • Assist with the development and implementation of H&S programs including training and competency frameworks
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining a suitable framework to ensure legal compliance with regards to H&S matters
  • Seek out relevant best practice outside the business and sector to then bring back and deliver suitable implementation plans
  • Undertake regular audits and inspections to determine compliance with H&S legislative requirements.
  • Organise and facilitate training as required and manage training records.
  • Undertake site inductions for visitors and contractor partners when required.
  • Wider interaction with other businesses within the Breedon Group

The successful candidate will hold the NEBOSH National Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety (or equivalent) and IOSH membership. A NEBOSH National Diploma would be advantageous. You will possess extensive relevant health & safety advisory experience, along with an excellent track record for managing leading and lagging H&S metrics in order to improve performance. You will also be able to demonstrate a suitable level of competency in auditing.

We are looking for the following skills and knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant H&S legislation
  • Competent risk assessor
  • Ability to mentor/coach fellow auditors and auditees
  • Current knowledge of behaviour-based safety would be desirable
  • Understanding of safety culture development
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Sound understanding of business management systems including relevant Standards e.g. ISO 6001 & OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001
  • Awareness of generally available data & information in relation to such matters as industrial health trends
  • Excellent engagement skills
  • Good knowledge of core IT systems
  • You will be a confident, driven and dedicated individual, with strong influencing and leadership skills. You will also be able to actively demonstrate self-sufficiency and strong personal integrity. The ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and demonstrate clear thinking and control in times of pressure are also essential.

    This is a site based role, however some travel to the depot network may be required.
