Location: Winchester
Kier Strategic Highways are currently looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join the Area 3 Highways Maintenance contract.
The role will be based out of our Easton Lane, Winchester office and will cover multiple locations across the Area 3 Contract. The role reports into the Contract Asset Delivery Manager.
As a business we deliver all aspects of highway infrastructure maintenance to Local Authority and Highways England clients. The ideal candidate must be a proven leader with good communication skills and substantial operational knowledge and experience within the highways, utilities or construction industry, the role will involve.
Leading and participating in regular meetings with operational staff, supply chain partners, clients and the contract management team.
- Work with the Design and Schemes teams to assist in implementing CDM duty holder roles.
- Reviewing Construction Phase Plans (including supply chain risk assessments and method statements)
- Liaising with Quality and Performance team to maintain and manage the companies ISO 14001 and 18001 accreditations.
- Assisting the Contract Asset Delivery Manager and his advisors.
- Drive the trial and use of innovative products and techniques.
- Ensure premises meet the requirements of the RRFSO.
- Advise the management team on incidents and injuries, lead incident investigations to determine and eliminate the root cause.
- Support the Company SHEA Director and the wider SHEA team across the business.
- Provide advice and support to the operational teams and supply chain partners on Safety, Health and Environment issues.
- Collate and disseminate data on Safety, Health and Environment performance for contribution to monthly, contract and other reporting requirements.
- Develop, drive and champion Safety, Health and Environment campaigns.
- Support the continued development of the Safety Health and Environmental Management System
- Drive and manage the behaviour based safety programme through a team of internal consultants.
- Undertake Site, Depot and Office Health and Safety Inspections.
- Promote the businesses values and vision 2020.
- Actively promote Safety, Health and Environmental issues in the workplace, setting a good example to other employees and ensuring awareness of and compliance with general Health and Safety responsibilities as set out in the Health and Safety Management System.
- Challenge the boundaries and common practices within the industry to improve standards throughout the business.
The ideal candidate will be driven to raise standards, they will have operational working experience of managing SHE on large construction sites and highways reactive maintenance contracts including the implementation of traffic and pedestrian management, temporary works, excavations, working around rail property.
The essential qualifications are a NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate, the desirable qualifications are chartership status in H&S; 1 Day Lantra 12AB certificate.
