BHC is one of the UKs leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction companies, supplying, and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.

We currently have a vacancy for an Inspection and Testing Engineer with a Mechanical Engineering background to support our Construction Team. This role involves working closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, and other key stakeholders to ensure all inspection and testing activities are coordinated effectively. You will help ensure that site requirements and compliance standards are met in line with project schedules and programme demands.

Main Responsibilities:

Conduct statutory thorough examinations and inspections on all types of equipment, including lifting equipment, work equipment, structural supports, plant and access equipment.
Report inspection findings in accordance with relevant legislation, regulations, and standards (e.g., LOLER 1998, PUWER 1998).
Advise and support customers regarding their legal obligations under relevant regulations.
Prepare detailed, compliant inspection reports and ensure all documentation meets internal and regulatory standards.
Recommend corrective actions or repairs when equipment or structures are non-compliant or unsafe.
Stay up to date with industry legislation, standards, and best practice (including LOLER, PUWER, BS EN 1090).
Communicate inspection results clearly and professionally to clients, offering expert guidance on ongoing compliance and safety.
Collaborate with engineers, site managers, and fabricators to co-ordinate inspections during manufacturing, assembly, and installation phases.
Promote a safety-first culture by identifying unsafe conditions or practices and reporting them promptly.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in inspection and testing, with the ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining high standards of accuracy and attention to detail. Excellent interpersonal skills and clear communication are essential for effectively liaising with site teams and clients. You should be confident in managing a varied workload, prioritising tasks in a fast-paced environment, and contributing positively to a team-focused culture.

Experience within the structural steel or construction industry is desirable but not essential. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Inspection and Testing Engineer to join a supportive team and further develop their skills within a leading UK construction company.

Job location - our office is based in central Scotland but this job role would travel UK wide.
