We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to join our Highways Value Added Engineering Technology Team in Birmingham. The successful candidate will provide advocacy, strategic guidance, research and development support, technology advice and project assistance to clients who wish to implement innovative and state of the art (or legacy) Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and solutions. You will be able to switch hourly between tasks on a daily basis. The highest levels of accuracy are required to support ITS, Technology Asset Development, and Professional Consultancy delivery for projects, and initiatives ensuring right first-time 'OTIF' delivery is fully compliant with Client requirements and specifications.

What do we need from you to be successful in this role?

  • Ensure junior (below Engineer grade) professional services team VAE members are meeting their objectives by being responsible for providing day-to-day supervision, workload planning, mentoring and coaching in accordance with Kier Group and HR policies and procedures
  • Responsible for assigning tasks and setting regular objectives to junior VAE team members, scheduling and monitoring work and reviewing results for timeliness, accuracy and quality
  • Manage and contribute to the successful delivery of work packages/tasks in support of PES vision and framework as directed by the Senior Engineer
  • Contribute to the overall profitability of the business by monitoring project expenditure and reporting on performance against variations
  • Submit reports (as requested) and attends meetings as and when required in support of VAE
  • Provide regular project updates, in relation to progress, spend and risk mitigation
  • Provide the Senior Engineer/Line Manager with regular feedback on the performance of junior team members
  • Undertake feasibility studies, investigations, and technology research to provide innovative solutions
  • Attend industry events, seminars and conferences as representative for Kier (as and when required)
