Due to an increase in business, our client is seeking to recruit an Junior Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis to start as soon as possible.
Ideally, the suitable candidate will have a minimum of 3 years relevant experience gained within a civil engineering environment.
The successful individual will be commercially astute, show a significant commitment to the role and be prepared to work beyond contracted hours when required. The individual will be focused, enthusiastic and able to provide the systems and procedures to ensure contracts are managed from a cost/value recovery and that the relationship with the Client is maintained and enhanced from a commercial perspective. We wish to recruit an individual who has the personal drive and motivation to exceed expectations in the role and look to a broader and growing general management, someone who is tenacious, articulate, numerate, a relationship builder, communicator, concise, commercially very aware and astute when reviewing in and out-bound correspondence that may materially affect the Company's ability to achieve full contract recovery within targeted costs and minimising any financial risk associated with potential delays in meeting contract program.
Experience:
* Minimum 3 years relevant experience, ideally in a civil engineering environment.
* Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
The main duties and responsibilities are listed below although this is not exhaustive:-
* Review of contractual matters relative to the submissions of PQQ's and incoming orders and must have a thorough understanding of and experience in working with NEC subcontracts.
* Risk assessment in tender submissions related to both contract and logistics.
* Assist the Operations Manager to manage the \"time critical\" correspondence between the company and bodies associated with design approvals and pre-manufacturing instruction, ensuring
the company is fully protected from either direct or collateral risk when the company faces delays to agreed program dates.
* Ensure through direct involvement that all aspects of client / customer instruction are evaluated, priced and agreed before commencement of the works and that delays affecting the
productivity and efficiencies of the factory are documented and any resulting site delays are communicated to the client to protect the company from contractual, commercial claims and / or
financial penalties under any supply or subcontract agreement.
* Managing and mitigating client expectations when delays are incurred and ensure the framework for any financial recovery are both documented and any resultant overhead or direct costs are
recovered with timely submission of either monthly application or invoice.
* To coordinate with the Buyer Role and buying function in purchasing materials, sub-contract elements of pre and on-site works when required, including reinforcement, labour, bricklaying and
specialist moulds manufactured on or off site for individual casting requirements.
* Manage with the Operations Manager all aspects of financial expenditure in material, labour, plant and consumables within the factory, ensuring budgeted costs are either improved or
maintained on a contract basis. In particular, in conjunction with the Operations Manager prepare for sign off by the CA/MD budgets and productivity targets for each project and labour
element and monitor performance against these, recommending and facilitating improvements through change where required. In particular, take responsibility for commercial management of
subcontract labour.
* Manage all aspects of variation identification and pricing in the business and seek to maximise return for the business in securing adequate notification to the client and payment for these.
* Prepare regular reports to permit management visibility into the operations and success of your functions, with a focus on labour and project cost reports to budget.
* After the first 4 weeks, to establish KPI's with your manager to measure effectiveness of operations under your control and your performance.
* Support the Business Development Manager to win orders and develop new opportunities for the business.
