Basic salary to £90,000, OTE potential £100,000

Trading since the 1970's this Essex based company continues to grow and progress, and currently employ over 70 staff at this location. Since inception they have held a reputation for delivering excellent service to the construction industry. This is something from which they draw great pride, and is always at the forefront of all they do. They have their own fleet of delivery vehicles enabling them to ensure prompt and reliable deliveries throughout their area of operation.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Managing Director who is spirited with a get up and go attitude. You will have the desire and drive to diversify, not just the client base but also the products that they offer. Responsible for overseeing a small management team you will be sympathetic and reassuring to all three divisions. The management team are all product specialists, who will need encouragement to take a more strategic outlook. You will be setting some tough objectives, ensuring your team remain focussed to achieve these, and this may involve using your extensive diplomacy skills and change management experience. There may be occasions where you will need to go beyond the call of duty in order to achieve key objectives. You will enjoy a good degree of autonomy for your business, but supported by the Group Directors.

You will

  • Have an operational background with a strong commercial focus
  • Ideally experience of working with timber
  • Assert your authority in order to meet agreed timescales and deadlines and overcome any problems to ensure these are achieved
  • Be comfortable in the setting and working with tough objectives, monitoring progress and (if necessary) taking corrective action to control the performance of yourself and others.
  • Be able to take decisions in a timely and appropriate manner whilst at the same time ensuring others follow similar principles.
  • Be confident in dealing with negative situations, able to convince others to offer their own ideas and create new options, as well as encouraging and enthusing them to come up with imaginative solutions to difficult problems.
  • Be disciplined in developing organisational systems, procedures, rules and norms.
  • Use researched factual information when solving problems and apply logic when handling conflict.
  • Be proactive and energetic in the work situation, seeking to get things done and at the same time deal with a variety of tasks.
