The Opportunity:
Kier Major Projects Build are currently looking for an experienced Managing Estimator to join an existing team of passionate and dedicated managers. With our diverse portfolio of projects we are looking for an established individual who has a wealth of knowledge through the main contracting market. We are also looking for individuals who have a passion for the project at hand whilst also being able to work within a good and healthy team environment. We understand this approach is essential to ensure quality finished projects within budget and on time for our clients.

The role will include the following responsibilities:
  • Advise of any business opportunities for the Company.
  • Review the status of workload with the Head of Estimating at departmental meetings.
  • Pre tender & Marketing:

  • Manage robust and long term relationships with Clients, Design Teams and the Supply Chain in line with the general Strategy.
  • Assist/Manage the production of tender documents.
  • Attend pre-tender interviews where required and post tender presentations.
  • To provide detailed and accurate pre-tender cost advice including reviewing and preparing cost plans and preparing pre-tender budgets.
  • Estimating:
  • To lead, manage and motivate the projects estimating staff and to establish its full commercial contribution to the organisation.
  • To implement and comply with Kier Group's SHE policy and procedures, all legal requirements, and best practice within the business unit and areas.
  • To support work to determine the required capacity, capability and competency of estimating staff for the project.
  • To develop an organisational culture within the business unit that embodies the values of Kier Group.
  • To prepare and lead the compilation of tenders.
  • Work in conjunction with the Project Team to ensure the tender estimate fully assesses and reflects the commercial, operational, programme and technical requirements for the project.
  • To support the process of assessing, preparing (including post-tender activities), validating, adjudication and final submission of tenders on time and to the required quality.
  • To estimate the costs in order to meet or exceed thecustomers' requirements - in particular:
  • to obtain quotations from suppliers;
  • to negotiate prices.
  • To support negotiations and attend meetings with the customer during the tender process.
  • To support the commercial relationships with customers, consultants, contractors, suppliers and subcontractors during the tender and fulfilment processes.
  • To support the handover of the project plan(s) (PEP) to the fulfilment team (procurement, contract management, commercial management and project management).
  • To support the project teams to fulfil contracts safely, on time, and to the required quality while minimising costs.
  • To work out and plan the requirements for internal and external resources - in particular:
  • To identify and coordinate suppliers;
  • and sub-contractors.
  • To assess, control and mitigate risks and implementKier Group's risk policy - in particular:
  • to recognise financial, technical and operational risks within tenders and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit.
  • To implement and comply with Kier Group's policies and procedures for functional governance.
  • To implement and ensure compliance with, and support the development of,Kier Group's policies procedures and standards:
  • reporting
  • risk management
