With strong engineering acumen, the Manufacturing Engineer will have a holistic understanding of the manufacturing process and how to support and enhance it by developing, implementing, and optimising production methods in line with aerospace industry standards. The Manufacturing Engineer role plays a key part in ensuring product quality, improving operational efficiency, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the production floor at the Bristol branch.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process Development & Optimisation
    • Design, implement, and refine manufacturing processes for aerospace components.
    • Create and maintain 3D models and CNC programs using CAD/CAM software.
    • Evaluate and improve existing production methods to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
    • Identify opportunities for new or improved manufacturing processes to meet current and future requirement
    • Ensure all processes comply with aerospace quality and safety standards.
  • Technical Support
    • Provide hands-on engineering support to production teams.
    • Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
    • Collaborate with design and quality teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Tooling & Equipment
    • Specify, procure, and maintain production tooling and equipment.
    • Develop jigs, fixtures, and other aids to support efficient manufacturing.
  • Continuous Improvement & Quality Culture
    • Drive a culture of zero defects across the organisation.
    • Work collaboratively with all departments to reduce risk and ensure products are manufactured Right First Time.
    • Lead and participate in Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement
  • Documentation & Compliance
    • Create and maintain detailed work instructions, process documentation, and technical reports.
    • Ensure compliance with AS9100, ISO 9001, and other relevant aerospace standards.
  • Project Management
    • Manage and support new product introduction (NPI) and process transfer projects.
    • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to meet project timelines and deliverables
  • You may be required to work alternative shifts / hours
  • You may be required to perform any other reasonable duties/specific projects from time to time and as directed by management.

Qualifications, Experience and Attributes Required:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing engineering role, preferably within the aerospace sector.
  • Strong understanding of CNC machining, assembly processes, and aerospace-grade materials.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, particularly SolidWorks and Solid CAM.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Skilled in identifying issues, analysing root causes, and implementing corrective actions.
  • High level of accuracy and commitment to quality, with a focus on achieving zero defects and Right First-Time production.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with production, quality, design, and supply chain teams.
  • Ability to commute to and from Bristol.

Desirable:

  • HNC in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Knowledge of aerospace standards such as AS9100, ISO 9001, and familiarity with regulatory compliance and IP protection.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies to drive efficiency and eliminate waste.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver engineering projects on time and within scope
