Our international client is a market leader operating within the railway and mining industries.
Our client develops, designs and builds advanced measurement and control equipment, mostly for passenger and heavy freight railways.
They are looking to recruit a Mechanical Engineer to their expanding team.
Mechanical Engineer Job Purpose:
The focus of the role will be designs of jig/fixtures/test equipment and test track configuration. This is to enable/enhance the build, test and installation of our systems. There will be limited design of the systems themselves, but you will need to read existing design drawings and build packs (BOMs, assembly and test docs and processes), understand them, evaluate their "manufacturability" and build risks and then design any solutions required for successful/streamlined build.
Mechanical Engineer Main roles & responsibilities:
Undertake specific design tasks under the direct guidance of the Engineering Management, including but not limited to:
*Assist in the design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety, reliability and throughput;
*develop a project specification with colleagues, often including those from other engineering disciplines;
*develop, test and evaluate theoretical designs;
*discuss and solve complex problems with manufacturing departments, sub-contractors, suppliers and customers;
*make sure a product can be made again reliably and will perform consistently in specified operating environments;
*manage projects using engineering principles and techniques;
*plan and design new production processes;
*produce details of specifications and outline designs;
*recommend modifications following prototype test results;
*use research, analytical, conceptual and planning skills, particularly mathematical modelling and computer-aided design;
*considering the implications of issues such as cost, safety and time constraints;
Qualifications
*A Mechanical biased Engineering degree from a UK University, or qualification of equivalent standard from a UK or overseas university.
*Qualifications must confer eligibility for membership to a UK Engineering professional body such as IMechE.
Candidates that have held a similar position and have experience working in the rail industry along with the above qualification will be seen as ideal.
