Location: Mobile - covering domestic and commercial sites across Wiltshire, with a base office of North Bradley, Trowbridge
Business Area: Kier Facilities Management - Wiltshire County Council
Contract & hours: Permanent, full time, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Package: company van + standby & call out, including out of hours & weekends
Kier Places are recruiting today for a Multi-Skilled Engineer (Mechanical / Plumbing Bias), where your role will be key to supporting the delivery of a Facilities Management Hard Technical Services solution for our prestigious client, Wiltshire County Council, covering buildings across Wiltshire.
Key Responsibilities
As a focused and reactive Multi-Skilled Engineer (Mechanical / Plumbing Bias), you will deliver a combination of electrical, mechanical, water and building fabric planned (PPM), reactive, quoted, and extra works engineering services specialising in mechanical disciplines. You will be assisting in ensuring Kier deliver a safe, customer focused, cost effective, efficient, and compliant service in order to meet its contractual and legal obligations.
Whilst mechanical biased and predominantly reactive & breakdown focused, this role is multi-skilled and encompasses various reactive and PPM tasks including, but not limited to, tap testing, flushing & fixing, legionella tests, pump/compressor fault diagnosis, assessing plant equipment, fire alarm, emergency lighting, fuses, desk management, HVAC, AHU's & compressors maintenance, and other general maintenance works within your abilities such as minor fabric, electric & heating repairs.
Mechanical & plumbing activities are predominantly on complex commercial heating and low temperature heated water systems, but will include reactive repairs to both commercial and domestic properties, involving all kinds of water services, taps, showers, mixers, pumps, toilets, waste, zip water heaters, cylinders, pipework leaks & repairs (from 15mm up to commercial 10 inch plastic ABS).
You should also be comfortable working on ladders, in tight spaces, and in plant rooms; working alone or in a team; and be comfortable moving/transporting tooling & access equipment of all sizes & weights.

What do we need from you?
We're looking for a proactive Engineer who is Qualified in Plumbing, Heating, or Mechanical Engineering (e.g. Level 2 NVQ/City & Guilds, 6035, 6188, 6189, 8202 or equivalent); has fault finding and reactive repairs experience, who is able to conduct first line response of mechanical, heating & plumbing equipment, and has the ability to conduct a variety of building & facilities maintenance tasks, including, but not limited to, electrics & lighting, water & plumbing, HVAC, AHUs & compressors.
To be a Multi-Skilled Engineer with Kier, you'll bring with you previous experience in commercial building services / facilities management; and as a bonus, you may have PASMA, Working At Height, IPAF certification, and L8 Legionella awareness.
It would be highly desirable if you also have Level 3 Plumbing and Heating qualification; basic heating background (e.g. Gas Safe, Commercial or Domestic Gas tickets); Water Regulations & Unvented Hot Water Systems (3345); Pool Plant operators Course; and/or Electrical qualifications.
Due to the nature of this position you should have a full UK driving licence, be happy travelling across the county to different sites, and be able to participate in the on-call rota system covering out of hours and weekends.
