Operations and Maintenance Engineer

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in the renewables sector as an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Engineer, overseeing, managing, and contributing to all O&M delivery projects. The position is based in Bristol, with occasional travel to offices in London and Guildford, as well as project sites as required.

We are seeking a highly motivated engineer with experience in systems such as Solar PV, EV charging infrastructure, Combined Heat and Power (CHP), Ground and Air Source Heat Pumps, Building Management Systems (BMS), gas boiler systems, system integration, performance optimization, fault diagnosis, warranty determination, commissioning activities, RAMS, reporting, asset management, and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Asset Management - Lead, manage, and deliver O&M projects, including:

  • Project Support: Provide oversight, expertise, and input on the scope of O&M activities at all stages of projects.
  • Documentation: Create and review documentation such as budgets, scopes of work, and requirements to support projects.
  • Commercial Understanding: Interpret contracts and sub-contract requirements, develop clause-by-clause assessments, and handle specifications.
  • Budgeting: Manage cashflows, cost sheets, purchase orders, and invoicing.
  • Client Interaction: Maintain communication with clients, address concerns, and provide updates on O&M delivery.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with internal teams (e.g., Engineering, Project Management, O&M) to ensure compliance and safe completion of activities. Build positive relationships with suppliers and clients.
  • Troubleshooting: Analyze data logs, use diagnostic tools, and collaborate with engineers to diagnose and resolve issues.
  • Installation Oversight: Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, coordinate contractors, and ensure proper site work completion. Manage project handovers and ensure task schedules align with project timelines.
  • System Testing and Verification: Conduct testing and verification of electro-mechanical systems to ensure they meet design specifications.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Preferably HNC/HND in electrical, electro-mechanical, or mechanical disciplines (18th Edition is advantageous).
  • At least 5 years of experience as a time-served electro-mechanical engineer/technician.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially in client-facing roles.
  • Proven ability to self-manage tasks, work independently, and handle unexpected challenges.
  • Analytical skills for contracts and service agreements.
  • Hands-on experience in fault finding, root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, 5 Whys).
  • Strong time management skills with a calm and reliable approach.
