Job Description

As a Packaging Engineer, you will develop innovative packaging solutions that ensure safety, compliance, and cost-effectiveness across the supply chain. You'll collaborate with global teams, manage supplier relationships, and lead packaging projects that deliver measurable results in quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction.

  • The Qualifications We Seek

  • Bachelor's Degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Technologies, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or related Science
  • 5+ years of packaging experience
  • Experience with MRP systems
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TOPPS (or equivalent)
  • High initiative, strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
  • Retail packaging experience beneficial
  • Knowledge of global packaging initiatives (EU-MDR, EU-PPWR, UK-PPT, etc.) beneficial
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and adapt to changing priorities

  • Technical and Operational Responsibilities

  • Execute Global External Manufacturing projects, strategy, relationship management, and cost savings.
  • Develop, educate, and continuously improve packaging protocols for various levels to minimize risk of product loss or damage.
  • Understand and develop package design and testing protocols.
  • Design and create new primary, secondary, tertiary, and display-level packaging for retail and clinical businesses.
  • Work with materials such as paperboard, corrugate, plastics, metals, and other substrates as required.
  • Communicate with suppliers, graphics teams, and internal stakeholders to execute packaging strategy and plans.
  • Create and review component lists and Bills of Materials (BOMs) used for product specifications.
  • Define and utilize Units of Measure to ensure accuracy in purchasing, distribution, and sales.
  • Collect and manage packaging data for branded products.
  • Create and maintain product specifications, drawings, and inspection procedures to keep Quality Management Systems current.
  • Research product technical information to stay informed of materials, performance data, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct value analysis to meet project requirements, adhering to ISTA, ASTM, and ISO standards.
  • Ensure proper markings and labeling compliance with transit (CFR49) and regulatory standards for medical devices and cosmetics.
  • Develop assembly and kitting instructions for packaging execution.
  • Plan and execute offsite display assembly, from startup to direct shipment to customer distribution centers.
  • Perform value analysis to balance cost, quality, and product integrity.
  • Resolve graphic and definition discrepancies between internal stakeholders and external manufacturers.
  • Prepare and manage miscellaneous reports, analyses, and packaging projects as needed.
