Excavator Operative - Mersey Docks

We are currently seeking an experienced Excavator Operative to work on bulk and general operations at the Mersey Docks.

Role details:

Operating excavators in bulk cargo and dock environments

Working in confined spaces (medium risk)

Working days, nights, and weekends

Shift patterns may vary, so flexibility is essential

Requirements:

Valid RTITB or NPORS Excavator/Plant Operator ticket

Confined Space - Medium Risk certification (essential)

Previous experience in bulk or industrial environments

Strong awareness of health & safety in confined space operations

Reliable, punctual, and flexible with working hours

Additional information:

Applicants do not need prior port experience

Conversion training can be provided for suitable candidates without a port background.

Location: Mersey Docks Shifts: Days / Nights / Weekends (flexible availability required)

As a Trainee Rigger you will be required to support the lead rigger in daily tasks such as, rigging equipment, operate heavy machinery to erect and install structures and equipment and dismantle rigging after the job. The Trainee Rigger will also be required to attend site surveys and climb down inspections, to support the wider business with site work and installation of steelwork and generally to complete tasks agreed by the business with our clients relating to the building and maintenance of steel structures.

You will be required to communicate with the rigging team leader and to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations are always adhered to.

The role of the Trainee Rigger is a UK-based role, and regular travel and stay-aways are required.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Inspect and prepare loads that need to be moved
  • Set up and levelling heavy equipment machinery
  • Prepare rigging equipment including beans, pulleys, clamps and bolts
  • Inspect rigging before final use
  • Monitor and maintain rigging equipment
  • General duties associated with climbing and working at height on antenna mast and tower support structures
  • Installation of feeder support systems and TX link supports
  • Manoeuvre loads using heavy equipment machinery by hand
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures
  • Communicate with the rigging team
  • Breaking down rigging equipment and conducting post rigging inspections

About you

  • Working at Height certification desirable
  • Certifications in IPAF/First Aid at Height/Site Access Systems/Slinger Signaller desirable
  • Able to climb and work safely at height
  • Basic medical and fitness requirement (examination required)
  • Good communication and team building skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work at heights and noisy environments
  • Valid full UK driving licence
